One thing about photography is it is always keeping me on my toes! There is so much to work around...schedules, sunlight, location access...and then there are the events completely out of your control and you just have to shrug you shoulders and roll with it. That's how this photoshoot was...but I loved how it turned out!

The idea for this session began as a proposal photoshoot. A beautiful idea where he was surprising her by bringing her down to Washington, UT where there was going to be a hot air balloon festival. It was all worked out. I was going to meet him down there, scout out the area, and then at sunrise Saturday morning he was going to pop the question with the air balloons in the background. Beautiful idea, right?

Well, three days before we were to head down we had a final call, and he let me know that he had talked with the event coordinator and they had CANCELLED the hot air balloon festival! What!? Quick on his feet he decided he was now going to propose the night before up in Salt Lake City and then surprise her with a weekend trip down south where they would have a surprise engagement shoot. We chose a new area and everything was set. Or so we thought. My husband and I arrived a day early to scout out the area and find the exact location in Snow Canyon where we'd want to shoot. We woke up early to drive the 30 min drive from our AirBnB to the canyon when we realized that the GPS said it was going to take 1.5 hours! We noticed there were cones all over the road around us as we drove and then realized that this weekend...of all weekends...was the 2 day Iron Man race throughout all St George....AND SNOW CANYON! We tried as hard as we could but they had shut down the Snow Canyon road for the entire day for the safety of the racers and no one could get in or out. We spent the majority of the day looking for alternate locations that were not blocked off due to the race, but in the end nothing compared with the beautiful views in the canyon.

So long story short, after a few quick calls with the groom this photoshoot changed from hot air balloons to red rock cliffs, from a proposal to an engagement, and from sunrise to sunset. And here's how it turned out!
